New Hamburg Board of Trade Executive Meeting
December 30, 2008
By email and phone
The following email was sent to all Board of Trade executive members:
Hello, members of the Board of Trade Executive:
We are all aware of the devastating floods that hit New Hamburg this week. You probably know individuals whose homes and possessions were damaged by the flood waters. You may also know that, for most of these people, there will be no insurance coverage because, while a sewer that backs up is covered, water from a flood is not.
The situation has created a need that I think can be at least partially met by the Board of Trade, acting together with the New Hamburg Ministerial Association.
The concept is that the two groups would jointly open a New Hamburg Flood Relief Account at the TD Canada Trust (which has agreed to levy no charges), to receive donations. Donations could also be made through participating churches, for tax receipts, and then placed in the relief account.
This account would be administered by a committee including two Board of Trade representatives and two representatives of the Ministerial Association. These people would evaluate genuine, unrecoverable loss and need, and would formulate the method for distributing the donated funds.
The Board might decide to contribute from our assets, but that is not part of this proposal at this time.
I have talked to some members of the executive, and therefore present the following motion:
Moved by Lynne Mackie, seconded by Nigel Gordijk, that the New Hamburg Board of Trade partner with the New Hamburg Ministerial Association to open a New Hamburg Flood Relief Account, solicit donations to the account or through the participating churches, and form a committee to administer said account.
The motion was carried. |
